render (2004)

Render builds on the most recent work, The Anatomy of Happiness, the first segment (25min, 3/00) and displays transitory states of identity and existence.

In this piece, Koosil-ja Hwang explores the relationship between cinematic conventions (as cultural reference) and dance (as her private metaphor) combined in a staged mise-en-scene. Video projections were brought into the dynamics of the performance area, and text snippets taken from film dialogs were interjected by the performers while they wielded luminus objects on the cushion of an electronic soundscape.

Render is performed by Mike Iveson, Michael Portnoy, and Koosil-ja Hwang. It features video by Caspar Stracke and lighting by Aaron Cantor.
