A study of catching falling developed through a series of certain patterns, structures and rhythms of
movement. A bed constructed of metal and mounted on four wheels was used to explore new
territories of space: the surface of the bed, the area underneath the bed, and areas surrounding the
bed. The bed was constantly relocated to new space by the dancers as part of the sequence of the
dance. In this way, the dancers continually encountered a new and unusual passage of time and
space. The use of a bed evoked associations in the dancers as well as in audience members. It was
used in various ways that continually gave it a different character and suggested different meanings:
one dancer lies on the bed while another watches him; one falls off the bed while another catches
his fall, etc.
Film images that intertwined with the dance were projected during every new display of the bed. At
one point we danced only in the light of the film. The use of film images within the context of a live
dance performance created an intriguing and diverse sense of the passage of time and space. The
film was created by Caspar Stracke and the original score was composed by Yuval Gabay, a long-
time collaborator.
