deadmandancing EXCESS (2004)
by For deadmandancing EXCESS, Koosil-ja sets herself to analyze our fear and fantasy of dying - a schizophrenic desire for living - that we are reminded of by death. She collects dying performance footage from various films and sequences them to become a score for her dance. She studies each sequence by revealing rooted culture, religion, gender and politics. Unique collections of 30 something TVs spread a wall of sceneries for Koosil-ja's violent, emotional, simple and physical dance of reflections. deadmandancing EXCESS is created with generous funds from Altria Group, Inc., the Jerome Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation MAP Fund, NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, Experimental Television Center, and Material for the Arts, and generous contributions from friends and peers. The Experimental Television Center's Presentation Funds Program is supported by the New York State Council on the Art, a public agency. koosil-ja received a New York Dance & Performance "BESSIE" Award for her creation of deadmandancing EXCESS, mech[a], and OUTPUT. ![]() dance | idea | artists | film/video | music | home |
